The College Crest.

The upper scroll contains the words 'Coláiste Pádraig An Cabhán', written in old Irish script. This is the Irish translation of 'St Patrick's College, Cavan'. The centre of the crest consists of a bishop's crosier and mitre, taken from the crest of the diocese of Kilmore. The lower scroll contains the words 'Ad Meliora'. This Latin phrase is the college motto, meaning 'Towards better things'.
