Computer Science at St Patricks College
At St Patricks College, our Computer Science program begins in 5th year and is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in a digital world. Through a dynamic curriculum that includes coding, problem-solving, and real-world applications, we prepare students for the challenges and opportunities of the future.

Curriculum Overview
Our Computer Science curriculum is both comprehensive and forward-thinking, covering a wide range of topics that are essential for any aspiring tech enthusiast consisting of:
- Python Programming: Students learn the fundamentals of programming using Python, one of the most versatile and widely-used programming languages in the industry. From basic syntax to complex algorithms, students gain a strong foundation in coding.
- Micro:Bit
The BBC Micro:bit introduces students to the exciting world of physical computing and embedded systems. Using this compact microcontroller, students learn to create interactive projects, bridging the gap between software and hardware.
- Web Development (HTML & CSS): Students delve into web development by mastering HTML and CSS, the building blocks of the web. They learn to create responsive and visually appealing websites, laying the groundwork for more advanced web technologies.
- JavaScript: Expanding on their web development skills, students learn JavaScript to add interactivity and dynamic content to websites. They explore the principles of event-driven programming and client-side scripting.
- Improving Lives Through AI: Students explore the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and how it can be used to solve real-world problems. They learn about machine learning, data analysis, and ethical considerations in AI development.

Industry Connections
We believe that learning extends beyond the classroom. At St Patricks College, we maintain strong links with the tech industry, providing students with opportunities to connect with professionals and gain insights into the world of computing. Through site visits to tech companies, internships, and guest lectures, students see firsthand how their skills can be applied in various industries.
Competitions and Challenges
Our students are encouraged to put their skills to the test through participation in national-level competitions. These competitions provide a platform for students to showcase their abilities, learn from their peers, and gain recognition for their achievements. Whether it’s coding challenges, hackathons, or AI innovation contests, our students consistently excel and represent St Patricks College with pride.
