Seachtain na Gaeilge 2020
Last year, many events were organised by our Irish teachers for “Seachtain na Gaeilge”.
Gach maidin, there was a fógra made by a student to let us know the events taking place that day. It was deas to hear an Ghaeilge being spoken by our peers.
Our tutors did a Tráth na gCeist with us.
Second year students took part in Biongó.
Cailíní from Loreto came over to take part in a Céilí with TY students. Bhí craic agus spraoi acu go léir.
5th years took part in a joke competition. They translated jokes to Gaeilge and the winning joke won a prize. 5th year students also played a modern Irish song over the intercom at the start of each lunch-time.
P.E classes took part in a “Cic Fada” and “Poc Fada” competition.
There were many prizes organised throughout the week for taking part in various activities. For example, Uibheacha Cásca, vouchers, GAA hataí agus láimhíní agus barraí seacláide!
Everyone made more effort to speak Irish throughout the week. Bhain gach duine taitneamh as. “Is fearr Gaeilge bhriste ná Béarla cliste”, mar a deirtear.
Ciorcal Comhrá
At lunch time, our school have a Ciorcal Comhrá set up for students who want to improve their spoken Irish and make cairde nua.
It is open to all years and many students attend each week.
Each week, we talk to each other about different topics and play different cluichí.
Last year, ten of us received scholarships for the Gaeltacht. I really enjoy going to the Ciorcal Comhrá gach seachtain. Bíonn a lán craic againn le chéile!
